PRSSA National Assembly

Off the dock of Charleston, these pretty ladies and I had a blast. Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) hosted their National Assembly last week. PRSSA local chapters sent a representative to elect our 2014-2015 national committee. We all gathered together to learn from one another and have a blast.

National assembly proceedings started bright and early Saturday morning. After roll call was completed, students running for a specific office would go up onto the stage to draw for the order in which they would give their speech. Each candidate gave a five minute speech to the delegates. After all candidates finish their speeches, the delegates have a chance to ask questions. Right after the questions and answers, the delegates went a vote. Right after the delegated finished their selection the ballots were gathered and winning candidate was announced! It was a very exciting, yet super stressful time.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to run in the election. I prepared to run for the Vice President of Career Services. Competition was very tough this year. So many incredible students ran for national committee! The delegates had many tough decisions.  After a long eight hours in the assembly, the delegates voted in their new national committee:

National President: Heather Harder, Elon University
Vice President of Advocacy: Eric Winkfield, Florida A&M University
Vice President of Career Services: Jonathan Hill, Otterbein University
Vice President of Chapter Development: Paige Weber, Louisiana State University
Vice President of Member Services: Jordan Paquet, Northern Michigan University
Vice President of Professional Development: Dea Pennington, University of Oklahoma
Vice President of Public Relations: Ethan Parry, Brigham Young University
Vice President of Regional Conferences: David Lee Watta, Columbia College Chicago

The new national committee is full of brilliant and motivated individuals that will bring so much to PRSSA. I am so happy to have met each and every one of them. I can't wait to see what they can do!

  1. Amy, this feels like ages ago! This trip was such an amazing experience. I loved spending time with the three of you and exploring Charleston. I loved seeing you step up and fearlessly run for a national committee position. I loved everything about this trip except for the rain! But then again, if it had not rained, we never would have taken the picture on the dock. This is one of my fondest memories of my time here at ONU and I'm happy to have shared it with you!
